Workout Mania

I have been working out like crazy, usually an hour of cardio and then another workout whether it be weights or a walk. I am trying to ensure that I can wear my suit at my medical school interview in a little over 2 weeks.

Today I did some elliptical then I ran 2 miles on the indoor track and during the last two laps (about a 1/4 mile) I did some sprints and I was a little shocked at how fast I was able to go, and it felt good! I love being stronger and can't wait for it to keep going!

2nd round

So I finished the first 11 days great, losing 7.8lbs! I know how awesome is that right? Well it would have been better if I didn't gain back some of those during my 3 days off. I didn't drink enough water nor eat very good. I did my Christmas baking as well as Christmas eating but I started again on Sunday. I have had a treat or two each day and after today I should be back to my ending weight. I am resolved to be better on my days off to not gain back the weight and to keep drinking water.

I also was being a little optimistic with the losing by Christmas time table and have changed it from 15lbs to 11lbs. Hopefully I'll be able to make it, but it's only like another 4 so I feel it's doable.

I interview with the U's med school on January 12th and I got a super cute suit, now I just need to fit into it :) I am currently starting to fit into my 12's, and the pants are a 10. I can put them on, they just don't look very good. So there is some extra motivation to stay diligent.

Losing!

So the weight has been coming off, which is so great! But I am a little worried it's coming off too fast. I have been losing a little over 2lbs a day the last two days. I am drinking tons of water and eating till I'm not hungry so I feel like I'm doing everything right. Hopefully it slows down a little bit so it's not so extreme but losing almost 6lbs in 3 days is pretty sweet too.

My clothes are all getting loose and I'm feeling good. Today we took Gideon to the doctor again to check on his neck (more on my other blog) and afterwards we decided to get hot chocolate. There is this little place called cocoa cafe on 900 s and 200 e that has the best hot chocolate ever, so we stopped and I got a small one. We'll see if this affects the loss at all, but I am cutting out one of my 4 meals so hopefully it doesn't set me back too much. It was wonderful to have a little treat though :)

New Program

So I was reading my friend's Amber's blog and I am totally inspired by her weight loss! It is really quite amazing and she has been doing it by the idiot proof diet. The disclaimer is that you need to find a diet you can stick with and do it, so I figured what else do I have to lose except weight right? So I signed up for it online and it generates a diet for you that you follow for 11 days then a 3 day break, then you can start over if you want to lose more weight.

I'm currently on day 2 and it's a hard mindset for me to know that I can't eat whatever I want, and I am trying to drink a lot of water at the same time. But I am working on changing my mindset to a more positive outlook with a better body image. I have found that I have a mental barrier with losing more weight because I have always been heavy but I am working on changing that.

Also I updated my ticker again with my real goal weight, so keep checking :)

ticker update

Ok just as a side note I updated my ticker to reflect my starting weight when I actively started trying to lose weight after my postpartum appointment and took off my high pregnancy weight :) So it is now a more accurate number.

Christmas Goal

So I have set a goal for myself of dropping 10 lbs by christmas. So far I have gained 2 :( So here it is, I will try to update this every couple days or so. I bought a new scale so I can keep track of it better, and resolved myself to eating better. On a happier note I did run 4.5 miles on Sunday! I have gotten a lot stronger and feel quite a bit healthier. Now time to get really focused to meet my goal!

treking on

We went camping last weekend and it kinda through off my eating. The week before we left I ran every day and did toning, as well as eating really well. It paid off at weight watchers I was down a little over 3lbs. I did go mountain biking but I'm pretty sure some of the weight sneaked back on. Time to get into gear again. It's hard for me to get back to eating healthy after slacking but I know it will be worth it. I am down a size in my clothes which is awesome, and people are starting to notice which is so great.

My friend Elise and I have been trying to run most mornings, and most morning we make it. we try to go out for 40-60 minutes and my legs are usually pretty sore. I've been told that the soreness will go away, but I've been running for about 4 weeks now and still get sore. I'm guessing it's because we keep pushing it. Hopefully we'll keep seeing results.

Oh and it's almost time to change my goal. I would really like to lose another 40 lbs or so, so expect to see my goal change soon. I should probably switch my starting weight to when I started trying to lose weight rather than my pregnancy high, but it makes me feel better to see losing a huge number.

excercise, excercise, excercise

I have been trying to work out really regularly and I'm starting to notice more muscle definition. It's wonderful. So on Monday I didn't get in a workout, but on Tuesday I went for a run, and again on Wednesday morning. Today after my anatomy lab I road my awesome mountain bike home via the shoreline trail. It was quite the hill to get up since I started at presidents circle for those of you familiar with the U. For those of you who aren't President Circle is at the bottom of the University at approximately 1400 east, and from that I road up, up, up to the base of the mountains which is at the top of the University. The trail follows the base of the mountains around and I come back down behind heritage park and by the zoo. The steep down hills scare me, so I'm a weenie and walk down, but I did it in just about 40 minutes. Yeah for working out!

Falling off

So the weight has been coming off and it's so nice! You can see from my ticker that it's moving again, yeah! I know it seems like I have lost a ton, but I put in my starting weight from right before I delivered Gideon. It made me feel a little bit better!

The biggest change I have noticed is the snacking. We generally eat pretty healthy in our house with our meals, but I was baking a lot. So cutting out the sweets has made a huge difference. Hopefully these healthy habits will continue.

I also just got a new mountain bike and have been trying to cycle more often.
Here it is, isn't it pretty!

I have made it up the mountains twice now and it was fun. I am starting to have a lot more muscle tone which is also helping with the weight loss. I have pretty much dropped a size and it's so nice to be feeling more comfortable in my skin.

Weight Watchers

Two weeks ago I decided it was time to join. So far it's been good, and it's nice to have an easy to way to chart my progress. I decided to make the leap and just do it after I saw my friend Heather who has been successful with weight watchers, and looks absolutely awesome! She said she would go with me, so here I am. I lost a couple of lbs the first week, and hope to keep it up when I weigh in on Saturday. My birthday threw it off a little bit, but I have been pretty diligent the rest of the time so I hope it pays off.

I have also been exercising pretty much every day. It has been nice to feel my body get sore, and recover as well as see some of the little changes. Now I just have to keep it up.

We also got Wii Fit today, so I'm excited to be able to play some video games while toning up. In the little time we played with it today it seems pretty cool, I'll have to let you know more about it later.

Stagnant

That is a pretty good description of what I have been lately. It's time to get motivated again. Jerrod was playing in the sink the other day and broke my scale so until I get a new one I am going to pay a lot of attention to how I feel in my clothes. Also last night I watched this show "I can make you thin" It was pretty interesting, but I liked the concepts he shared. So I'm going to try it, what do I have to lose except weight right? He has 4 rules which seem like we should do anyways, so I'm going to follow them and hopefully change how I eat. They are:
1. When you are hungry, EAT.
Here is is scale, and you are not supposed to go into the red areas.

2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should.
3.
Eat CONSCIOUSLY and enjoy every mouthful.
Put the knife and fork down whilst you are chewing your food and really enjoy it - savour the taste, and enjoy the wonderful textures and sensations as you thoroughly chew each mouthful of food at least 20 times!
4.
When you think you are full, STOP eating.

I'm going to give it a try, and we'll see how it goes. Here's a link to his site if anyone is interested.

5K

Well the last 5 k didn't work out, so here's the new one. Only about 4 weeks, and the last mile is uphill, but I'm in. Anyone else?

As an added bonus it's put on by the medical school and benefits the free clinic they run down on 4th S and 4th W.

Stupid Cars!

I went out for my run today, it went much better than my last one. I could run longer before needing a walking break, Yeah! I was out for about 35 mins and finished it up with a 20 minute Pilates video. Ok on to my title, why is it when you are at an intersection and have a green walk arrow cars that are turning right have the right away. I am always super cautious before heading onto the street, but this is the second time now where if I wasn't so aware it would have been a close call. We really need a more walking/running/biking friendly community, but sadly it seems that the car is king.

Note to all drivers, please be aware of pedestrians.

Working out is going ok, but eating wise I finally feel that I have balanced out pretty well. It's so nice to not feel so tempted by my usual favorite snacks. Also I have found that I love my spinach salad I have for lunch on most days. I even feel like I had a little treat when I have just loaded up on tons of veggies, what could be better?

One major frustration is that I lost my Ucard, which is my student ID that I need to work out at the field house. I went to get a new one the other day and they wouldn't give me one because I am not currently enrolled as a student. I need to call them and see what the field house can do for me, since I paid 30 for the membership this semester. But I did got for a run yesterday around here, it has been such nice weather and it was nice to be out for a little bit. Also I am getting obsessed with baby carriers, I have sewn 3 different kinds in the last two days so hopefully by wearing Gideon around more will help shed some extra pounds!

Weekends are hard!

Well it's back to routine. Last week was hard because we had company, and then weekends are always a struggle for me. The bad thing is I haven't lost any weight, the good thing is that I haven't gained! I took the two little boys on a walk this morning, had a fruit smoothie for breakfast, and a salad for lunch. Our ward is playing basketball for fun tonight at 8 (girls only) and I will probably go as long as I get a run in at the gym first.

Two down

Well I have two workouts down! On Tuesday I ran/walked for 35 mins and then did 25 on the elliptical and yesterday I ran/walked for 35 mins. Eating has been going ok. Yesterday I only really had time for lunch and a snack for dinner before my workout. I don't think that is enough too keep up my nursing because Gideon is eating for a really long time and often. I guess it's time for breakfast ;)

One bad thing is I got a blister and some chaffing from the 3 sport bras I need to wear. I think I'm going to take it easy today and clean the house, do a pillates video and play church-ball tonight. I am starting to not miss the sweets though so that is good. Here's to salads!

Old Fieldhouse

Well this past weekend has not been very good on my body. We had family in town for Gideon's blessing and while I have tried to eat well it has not gone as well as I planned. I went up a couple of pounds, but in that I lost about 4 last week I'm still overall losing. It has been hard to work out inside every day with the two little boys, and too cold and dark to go out outside, so today I am going to get a membership at the fieldhouse. For those of you not familiar with the U the fieldhouse is a gym on campus that students can use for free, but spouses of students, and students who were enrolled the previous semester can pay $30 and work out for the semester. It's a pretty good deal and I plan on spending about 30 mins on the treadmill and 30 on the elliptical tonight. It will feel so good to get moving!

Another bonus is that I'll be able to start using the ipod Adam got me for Christmas more regularly.

I also started a new ticker. I find that I log quite a few miles, but don't keep track of them. So I thought of a cool place that is pretty far away (Seattle) and I will log my miles by having them count the distance. So hopefully sometime in the next year (or two) I will be there!

March 15th

I set a goal. I am going to run a 5k in March, on the 15th to be exact. It is the Leprechaun Lope at Memory Grove and the State Capital. We used to live behind the capital and I ran up there all the time. I love it, I"m just hoping that they are running the lope so it's mostly downhill rather than climbing the whole time. Either way I'm in. Now if it would start drying up so I can go for a run. . .

Here's the link: http://www.saltlakerunningco.com/event847.htm

Let me know if you want to join in, it's always fun to run them with friends!

Day two

Well here it goes. I try to work out first thing in the morning, but I usually don't get around to it until around 10ish. This also means that by the time I'm showered, dressed, and have fed the baby again it's time for lunch. It is nice to avoid the calories of breakfast, but I try to make sure I have a snack before to ensure I have a little bit of exercise. For food wise I had a graham cracker before my workout, and a salad with a boiled egg for lunch. For a snack I had a banana and yogurt along with some flat earth chips. (have you guys tried those? The cheddar cheese ones are excellent, just don't count them as your veggies, they are closer to grains, marketing ploys!)

Dinner was a grilled ham and cheese sandwich which I scarfed down on my way to church ball. When I got home I had an orange and a few crackers and cheese. I think I may finish my day with some chocolate milk, but we'll see, I may just crawl into bed as well. Overall not a bad day considering I worked out twice. I guess we'll see when I get on the scale tomorrow. Yes I do weigh myself daily, it helps me to stay motivated and I can see the small losses because my scale goes in increments of .2. I'm hoping it starts warming up so I can go for a run soon, I miss jogging. I'm really slow but hey I'm still out there right ;)

Day one

This has been a good week so far in regards to my diet and working out. I have done 30 mins of TaeBo every morning and some toning afterwards. I am pretty sore today, I'm fine as long as I'm on my feet, or on my bum, but getting between the two is a challenge.

As far as diet goes for the last 2.5 weeks I have been cutting out sweets. I'll let myself have a desert on the weekend, and it has made a difference. I have also made sure to make one of my meals a salad. That is also proving very doable since I really like salads as well. Today I didn't get breakfast, but I did have an early lunch which consisted of a banana, two eggs, and some oj (sounds like breakfast though doesn't it?) A piece of french bread for a snack, salmon salad for dinner with a role and two graham crackers for a snack with some milk before bed. I thought I did pretty well, but now looking at it on the screen I need to watch my grains and get some more fruit.

One of the challenges is when I eat a lot of green veggies it makes Gideon really unhappy with me. He has been gassy and fussy for the last week or so. I think I"m going to try to eat my salad right after a feeding so he doesn't get as much of it in the breast milk.

Well here it is, for everyone to see. Please let me know if you want to keep track with me so I can add you as a user :)
